Here is a lovely set of two row houses that we saw in Philadelphia. It’s not that we’re partial but we are local and there are a lot of row houses here.
The trend in development is to build new homes in formerly vacant lots and what better to replace a row house with but with another row house. New row houses utilize the latest in green materials and often apply innovative building techniques as well. Previously, large multi-block areas were being developed. But, with the economy still quite sluggish, developers have realized that smaller projects, maybe just a few homes at a time, are easier and faster to sell. Of course, this means you get inconsistency on a block but most row homes here are still primarily brick and about three stories so although different, the new homes blend in just fine.
